the version of silksong also feels like a first pass at combining a lot of stuff, and was only lightly playtested
I definitely agree that certain areas don't feel playtested. Not really surprising with such a small team. I can imagine it's very easy to be SO used to a game that you don't know what a new player will do or experience.

Act 1 vs. Act 2 is essentially meaningless. Like yes, you get sorta locked in until you get back to a bellway, but nothing actually changes between acts. Act 3 is where a ton of the zones change, but I'm not sure why the acts exist at all.

there are ~10 "sniff the cumstain and follow the smoke" there are ~20 "kill 0/15 rats and bring me their pelts" there are ~7 delivery/escort quests
Also the quest I couldn't be bothered to do: Go kill about 30 enemies total with specific tools.

the Mushroom storyline from the first game, is they they'll outlast the dying world, they always have, and again in Silksong that's their storyline again

All I saw of the mushrooms was that they are watchers looking for the "end of the age" because they like to watch notable things happening. Not the literal ending of the world or anything like that, but just notable world events.

yeah, I think it's up to interpretation how much of the broader world is impacted beyond the confines of the playworld of the events in-game

complaints about currencies and some of the quests aside, I do disagree with what spooky said about the bosses
really? I felt like the end-game bosses were mostly far more interesting and better spaced out compared to the earlier areas. There were times in the early game where I was confused why they kept throwing arenas at me instead of a boss.

Of course, any insults I have about Silksong bosses, it's better than just having a million "boss re-fight, but it's a bit stronger this time"

btw I missed multiple act 3 bosses because I was already tired of the game and couldn't be bothered, but there were probably more interesting ones out there too

imo for HK, none of the ghost fights were good, rematches are just rematches, and the only really good fights in HK are the hornet fights, dung defender, the Hollow knight, radiance, and the grimm fights

I honestly just don't remember HK, it's been a lot time since I played it and I've played a ton of metroidvanias since. I have no idea what I would think of it now.
