oblivion >> skyrim
The only thing you could even remotely argue is slightly better quests but that falls apart once you realize 80% of Oblivions quests are quite literally "Go here and kill a troll" Oblivions main bonus is nostalgia for people, when you ask someone what it did right or better you always get an empty response, or mentions of the shivering isles which were done by mark nelson who did many morrowind quests, and specifically was the lead writer for tribunal which is arguably one of the best written bethesda DLCs already. Argubly skyrims combat system isn't great but even on legendary you can still have enough dps to kill enemies, but not Oblivion it's ALWAYS spamming and giant helath sponges. I despise skyrim leveling too- but oblivions is actually hell and unusable. Then you have dlc being p2w breaking progression, the god awful UI. The lack of care and effort put into actually walking around the world and it comes out to a total mess.

Artstyle is better, in skyrim everything is too dark imo and everything look slike dirt, oblivion is more colorful and lively I like the stats system more in oblivion never liked percentage based perk systems in rpgs The big quests like guilds are way better in oblivion. In skyrim you join the guild and after going on 1 excursion to a dank cave you are now leader lmao. In Oblivion you actually have to work for it gaining different ranks with fun symbols etc I don't like the skyrim cities, it seems like everyone has a problem and they're way too one note. In Oblivion, some cities have problems, others hust don't and are just thriving normal cities which is way more realistic imo. Overall skyrim feels like a much more empty experience, when you complete the civil war story line nobody not even elsif aknwoledges it which isn't the case in oblivion. In oblivion you get a better sense of a realistic world that isn't just tailored to the player. I also like the romanesque asthetic there way more than the viking style of skyrim and again the artstyle is just way better. Quests are not slightly better they are way better. I also like the core mechanics of oblivion like the stat system way more. Overall I cab't really think of anything i like better in skyrim, oblivion is just way better imo

Oblivion also did unkillable npcs right in my opinion by having them faint. I also hate the fucking "i yield" shit in skyrim whete they get right back to fighting you instantly after, not every person in the world should be a dishonest coward like that luckily there are mods like true yield. The slow clunky animation for it also looks fucking stupid which doesn't just go for that but for the whole game really, i much prefer the snappy look and style of oblivion, zooming in to npcs when they talk to you etc. Oblivion muaic is also >> skyrim

>Artstyle is better I too agree that changed/alt tinted trees to represent regions of temperate forests to marshes- or the drab gray that can barely even represent skyrim on its border truly show the dichotomy of the cultural melting pot that is Cyrrodil. Or maybe even the thousands of drab Ayleid dungeons that look no different from the thousands of other buildings- But yes lets just ignore the marshes between riften and windhelm, the grassy plains of whiterun- the running forests mountains and waterfalls of markarth interwoven with dwarven ruins Even bringing DLC into it oblivion has the shivering isles which were obviously made by people who worked on morrowind (lol), skyrim has the recontextualized bloodmoon island and the forgotten vale- the outside falmer ruins interwoven between valleys, a return to the morrowind fastravel system, etc. >Stats system You don't seem to understand how oblivions leveling system works. You gain stats by doing actions repetedly but those effect what attributes you get when you level up. Which makes it so that your options are to just ignore the system and play on the easiest difficulty and just "deal with it" lmao which is retarded for an RPG- or the other alternative is to game it, take off your armor in fights before your next level, only use your fists because you can't level up your combat skills anymore etc. Maybe if oblivion had a GOOD leveling system it'd be fine, but any game that requires you to forgo how you play to make it so you don't get a shitty level and end up with literal THOUSANDS of HP less, is a retarded shitty leveling system.

>Factions Factions were ruined as of Oblivion, the faction rank mechanic was carried over to oblivion from morrowind. In morrowind you actually didn't get leader rank if you messed up too many quests on the end to the questline, and becoming leader took a long time and argubly changed very little. Oblivion actually started the trend of "LOL YOURE NOW LEADER" Fighters guild questline? Here new recruit, please run around and do these jobs that the average person wont do and deal with this rival faction and now you're leader! Mages guild? Sorry I must kill myself to make this grand soul gem EX+++ youre the leader now XD, oh and everyone else LOVES necromancy so youre like the only other option anyways :PPPP Thieves guild? Oh we're down on our luck so we're going to ostracize the other person that wanted to join + youre the only one we're assigning jobs to Dark Brotehrhood? Wow the all seeing eye of the night mother saw you murder someone no matter where you are in cyrodil, now you're on the track to becoming the leader :3 Skyrim does also do it poorly but it's argubly dickridy to even CONSIDER that; Companions you're not technically the "leader" and they make it clear they have none, you just join the echelon once you become a WW, though argubly the position of kodlak is that of a leader so w.e., but even then you have to do tons of quests and recover wuthrag Thieves Guild has you still doing TONS of side jobs, and you're not ackolowedged as leader until you do like 3 quests in each hold and their special quest, argubly between all of skyrim and oblivion the skyrim thieves guild has the most work to become leader Dark Brotherhood has the shilled listener shit same as Oblivion, but due to how darkbrotherhood works its whatever College of Winterhold is pretty shittily done all together Neither do it well and are just shadows of how Morrowind did it, it's non issue >I don't like the skyrim cities, it seems like everyone has a problem and they're way too one note. In Oblivion, some cities have problems, others hust don't and are just thriving normal cities which is way more realistic imo. Oblivion cities are quite literally empty and are usually disconnected from the regions or races Argubly you can say skyrim regions/main holds are one note but those introductions really show you the regions even if you do have to ride the bethesda train Solitude is full of prosperity and imperialism, not corrupt but beholden to the war and import Winterhold is a shadow of its former self with only the college propping it up Riften is a den of corruption and thievery even reaching far outside of the hold itself Markath is one of the most well done regions if anything with the forswarn still propogating themselves and the cyridia mine quest showing that off

Skyrim is argubly rushed yes, but it is not "one note", its more of a railroad of fun compared to oblivions shallow mediocrity.

oh and for artstyle of course lets not forget blackreach

but maybe you just enjoy the empty christan-ripoff hell asthetic that the realms of oblivion were all turned into- with no depth or showing for the unique realms the other daedric princes would very obviously have

or how it cant even code its enemies right to where mannimarco cant actually do any damage to any player ever- the crux of the mages guild questline
taxes games
or how oblivion used the excuse of the "empire banning levitationa nd teleportation magic" and building entire questlines over that facet
taxes games
if you want to go even more into mechanics- the useless of actually closing oblivion gates throughout the world, the brokenness of sigil stones

Main point on artstyle is oblivion is more colorful and lively whereas everything looks dirty and miserable in skyrim which stands

your nostalgia tinted glasses may help you but from an objective standpoint there's too many issues to even make it bearable

The things you mention about the cities is my exact problem. In real life, cities don't have oke sentence descriptions that you can label them with, which is reflected in oblivion better
