so everything they do needs to be done en masse, and be as shoddy as possible because otherwise you can't operate at the necessary scale

So, there is a lot of complex things for batteries. I am kind of more equiped for this discussion than normal, because one of the people doing their PhD under my masters supervisor was doing control theory for batteries

but in a phone, there is a voltage regulator and 10 other things that will stop the raw cells from receiving charge when full

firmware too

How you charge a battery affects its lifespan a lot too
