There are two of them so I didn't want to list both
I have played the other spinoffs in some capacity
It's crazy that SoV is still a 'recent' game
I really disliked FE4 so I hope they make some slight changes to fix it.
The chapters are mostly spent moving instead of engaging with opponents
Thracia 776, Blazing Blade, Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn for sure
Probably also Binding Blade and Fates Conquest
Sacred Stones and SoV to a lesser extent
Then some Akaneia games
Awakening and Three Houses probably at the bottom. Oh and Heroes I guess.
Path of Radiance is probably a template for a good game to me. Not perfect of course.
Most of the old FE games were very easy, balanced by low stat caps and the assumption you wouldn't restart the game upon losing characters (or that you would replace older characters with new ones). Also there was no class changing, so you had to make do with what you were given. With things like optional grinding and class changing and turn wheel, it is much harder for the devs to make a chapter that is truly challenging. So they didn't bother actually making the chapters fun or challenging, or at least that's what I got from Three Houses. Furthermore, I really didn't like the life sim aspect to the game. I play Fire Emblem solely for the turn-based tactics at this point.
The reason why SoV maps don't have 'map rot' is just because they are mostly unchanged. The original didn't have turnwheel.
Replying to ChivesKirk #chiveskirk Like what you want, but the things I dislike the most in FE games are a lack of game balance and heavily encouraged grinding first, ambush spawns second, and bad story third.
the exp curve in sacred stones is fine without the tower or creature spawns
in awakening and fates the exp curve works in such a way where paralogues can put you ahead of the current chapter--but since the games are designed for you to use child units, the exp is plentiful enough where you can use a lot of units without fear of missing out on exp requirements
SoV maps are really only similar to the Akaneia games, but that means if you haven't played them you should.
