doing those runs sucks dick though because you have to do the monastery segments again.

Like what you want, but the things I dislike the most in FE games are a lack of game balance and heavily encouraged grinding first, ambush spawns second, and bad story third.

I dislike grinding and long chapters in Fire Emblem but I do like using a ton of units. Thracia 776 has the best balance for this imo. There are some archaic chapters in the game, but there are also some of the best ones in the series. There are so many mechanics only present in Thracia that I really like, especially Fatigue and capturing.

also engage doesn't really have ambush spawns it has 2? iirc, the rest of its spawns are just infinite spawns that they warn you about

idk what games encourage grinding though, it's an option in most but conquest disables it, you can't grind in 3h really? monestary is your grinding

I'm just saying that these three things are present in some combination in many games that I don't like. Not saying that I dislike all the games. Like Sacred Stones, Awakening, and Echoes have those respawning enemies in the map that you're supposed to use to grind. And you can do unlimited grinding in those games and Birthright.

Most of the old FE games were very easy, balanced by low stat caps and the assumption you wouldn't restart the game upon losing characters (or that you would replace older characters with new ones). Also there was no class changing, so you had to make do with what you were given. With things like optional grinding and class changing and turn wheel, it is much harder for the devs to make a chapter that is truly challenging. So they didn't bother actually making the chapters fun or challenging, or at least that's what I got from Three Houses. Furthermore, I really didn't like the life sim aspect to the game. I play Fire Emblem solely for the turn-based tactics at this point.

engage has 2 maps where it feels pretty apparent they're designed around you turnwheeling, but it's a step up from 3h by far, and they rven have a fucking anti turnwheel map

the exp curve in sacred stones is fine without the tower or creature spawns in awakening and fates the exp curve works in such a way where paralogues can put you ahead of the current chapter--but since the games are designed for you to use child units, the exp is plentiful enough where you can use a lot of units without fear of missing out on exp requirements
