The reason why SoV maps don't have 'map rot' is just because they are mostly unchanged. The original didn't have turnwheel.

the exp curve in sacred stones is fine without the tower or creature spawns
in awakening and fates the exp curve works in such a way where paralogues can put you ahead of the current chapter--but since the games are designed for you to use child units, the exp is plentiful enough where you can use a lot of units without fear of missing out on exp requirements
SoV maps are really only similar to the Akaneia games, but that means if you haven't played them you should.
