Replying to taxes #tzfi the best way to do this is to make the base very very simple and then add a ton of features that require certian inputs to increase the skill cieling, with stuff that is obvious to combo with (which is what smash does)
I swear if more fighting games added "fun modes" outside of the generic fighting game arcade/survival mode theyd be more accessible. Instead accessible in FG terms means auto combos and simple inputs
Riot has also just failed to launch/publish successful games in general
zero exposure outside of LoL players who happen to pay attention to a new icon getting added to their client
They resent having to slap "A League of Legends spin-off" on their stuff

Riot is sorta similar to what the gacha market is doing, but dont understand their own market
Hoyo, Kuro, and the rest adapt some aspects of other games into their very homogenized, audience-tuned game framwork

the model now is to just pick popular existing game, lift the core mechanic and implement it into their standard formula that people like
Riot would be successful if they actually tried to understand what people wanted
instead of insisting they were right, releasing stuff like 2XK0
and going out of their way to antagonize their players from day 1
I will say, I give Riot some props. While they did ape the idea, the two markets were relatively low competition. There really wasnt any alternative to CS at the time Valorant launched. 2XKO released during a big drought of Team Fighters with the only exclusion being Dragon Ball (Marvel vs Capcom Infinite died before launch).
yeah, I won't shit on valorant, it gave a lot of people something close enough to CS that they like to play

but if I'm expected to sit somewhere and make callouts to the rest of the team I'll need a group I like to play with to not want to off myself
If I'm going to play something comp, and not to have fun, it's going to be 1v1
