I have read the Google paper now
this is actually really cool

this will sound like a meme, but this is just backporting quantum cryptography to data compression
which solving efficiently using traditional compute is genuinely impressive
also this will have limited impact on consumer AI (decode constrained by memory BW) and have zero effect on RAM prices (stocks are responding to Russia increasing the price of Helium-4)

the multivariable thing seems to screw over some countries
it's weird that in some countries it fucks them over
and others it helps
I understand Valve have to (at least pretend to care) about 3rd world scams and keysales
but honestly, just let devs charge nothing for most countries
S. America are the ones I know are the most fucked
because their "normal" prices are a joke
and everyone just buys from the black market
cad is still lower than for direct conversion, but not much lower
some of them just being higher is funny
