this is the Cryengine one I remember
of them scanning rocks
this photogrammetry has thankfully mostly died out
because it was such a meme

lol the cave demo was the first thing i thought of when max brought up nanites, though i think the one i was thinking of was a shadows demo
The fact Epic has been trying to push (successfully) for UE5 to become the foundation for a lot of movie and youtube production
is still insane to me
I think the parts of the bethesda engine everyone likes and associates with something being a "bethesda games" would be possible to recreate in another in-house engine, but the more we've talked about this, the more I've realized there really is a short list of things that their engine needs to be able to do that it can't currently
and Starfields definitely a bad game to look at in that regard, since the entire space part of the game is just so completely phone'd in on top of being difficult to make work in their engine
Replying to Dane #princelydone how do you know so much about all this?
insert Terry Davis quote
You can infact hit them with your car
I can't beleive the final mission in Silksong is to kill the Jews
I could get higher on juggle, once I figured out the trick

I'm not finished yet (~90%), so I'm waiting to longpost
But Silksong is not nearly as good as Hollow Knight, and I think people will be a lot less charitable to it after the hype window wears off
it's still the best metroidvania to come out since HK, which.... might say something about the genre
I see people arguing about the "difficulty"
and debating that

I refuse. I think Nine Sols is a much better game. Though maybe not specifically a better metroidvania because it has weaker exploration, but the combat is much more fun.
but not about the game as a whole (maybe they are, I've been wanting to finish to really dig in after all)
100%
But I was told it would be the game of all time that would end gaming
I can see the seams of Silksong really clearly too, I'm sure there was a different direction they were going before this became HK 1.5

I'm actually lying to convince people here not to play it. It secretly is the greatest game to ever come out. There will never be a game as great as Silksong again. We have peaked as a species. We may as well go extinct now.
Maybe someday I will play hollowknight and then silksong then I can know if you are lying or not
odds of that seem low though
The Youtube bait people will start saying it's a bad game at some point, which it's not
but I do hate this is all we're going to get from metroidvanias until the end of time
Spooky whow as the animal well guy, I feel like he is playing this game

Curious on this. How do you think it changed exactly? I was moreso under the impression that Hornet was just going to be added DLC to run around Hollownest and they decided to add an entire new game instead.
just a hunch
I think it is true they at some point decided to take Hornet and make a standalone game, rather then put her in the original game
and I think originally that was due to her height
which is funny, because in the end for the version we got
they made her shorter again, and could have just put her in the 1st game
I think once they decided they were making a standalone game, they may have gone in different directions with it
my complete guess is they were doing multiple characters, and condensed it down to just Hornet in the end
But I also feel strongly that the plan they had for the world changed
the version of silksong also feels like a first pass at combining a lot of stuff, and was only lightly playtested
So I'd bet ~2 years was when they pivoted back to this being the base Hollow Knight formula for the whole game
The 3 act structure thing also does not feel good or complete

I definitely agree that certain areas don't feel playtested. Not really surprising with such a small team. I can imagine it's very easy to be SO used to a game that you don't know what a new player will do or experience.
The strongest part of the game in terms of world/level design were the first 4-5 areas in act 1
the quest system also
is just weird
the rosery economy is weird
