they double down on their characters being 10/10
I say this a lot, the entire industry is going to crash
yeah, this probably reduces the over-the-top woke influence on stuff
but the number of AAA games flopping rn is unheard of
The new Star Wars Ubi game that came out this week also lost millions
development has gotten so slow imo
when you stretch out those staffing costs, from 2-3 years to 6+
I hate that everything is going UE5
"devs love to work with it"
No they fucking don't
bad devs like it
because it lets them lean on it as a crutch
UE5 is genuinely better for movie CGI
than it is for standard use for most game studios
The Game of Thrones dragon show uses UE5
It's the first major one to do it, and now suddenly all of Hollywood is picking it up
Fox Engine
had the best ads
There are just a lack of capable people wanting to get into AA or AAA gamedev, so salaries have gone to shit
and to compensate you have these huge marching armies of slavedevs and support studios, everything is outsourced
and that drives up cost and dev time, product is inferior overall, and it's often stuff no one wants
I want games to look different too, I know that's not all the engine
but when they're all using the same assets and sharing them around
everything just feels like slop
I think you're right
I think what annoys me most is how they handle animation mapping on player movement
idk how to describe it, other than I feel like modern games just feel off when you're moving around
I can ignore it sure, but that's more distracting that the world itself looking however
