Rob needs Jesus
Monday, January 16, 2023
Well
I need to get this out somewhere, and honestly I dont really know where else to do so
I've been in a weird state of confusion and somewhat sadness ever since, you know, happened. A year back, so much so that I couldn't even bear watching Rob's video. I've been around since DvZ, although I also watched some of the Blaze Black series as well, fairly young honestly. I seen... signs, I guess, with the shutdown of DvZ and the weird way LoM was abandoned, even by the other content creators... Nisovin coming to mind. Its funny that, despite not having made a single video in a long time, he won the election. Not surprising considering how Rob or whatever was a gang leader or what not. Anyways, then Urealms occured, and I liked some of it, although I got kind of dissuaded by some of the random mature things players would do... Hell, I even watched that radical heights stuff and TTT. And the Tuna bandits in Rust.
Yes, I know some people were mad and sad about Rob moving onto new projects, but at the same time, I have no idea what happened.
So I guess I am confused, and very lost emotionally. What in God's name happened. I guess this sort of stuff has been answered elsewhere, maybe, but my initial confusion and busy life distracted me from 1 year ago, when I first learned of the unlisting.
some basic TL;DR of Robs career from downfall to now are
-He killed urealms live, his flagship DnD like show, on a whim without telling any of the crew
-A bunch of shit came out about how he was abusing people who worked with him behind the scenes
-He streamed some variety of games (sea of thieves, radical heights, etc) for a bit
-He then became a GTA rp streamer and did shitty rolepay (by this point, Rob gave up on being funny. The only people who watch Rob at this point are weirdos.
-Rob started his quest on the People > Content crusade. What this means is anyone who said "I like your old work" or even slightly criticised (or COMPLIMENTED) him got yelled at in km long youtube replies.
-This went on for a bit, then Rob out of nowhere destroyed his fanbase he had maintained of weirdos, bringing his personal discord activity down from about 200 posts a day to about 1-3
-Rob then locked his discord server, further killing his fanbase.
-Rob then broke up with Megan, his long time live in girlfriend, and threw her out of her apartment. Megan released a statement about how Rob is lying about her, getting people to gaslight her, etc.
-Current arc is Rob came back, put all of his old videos behind a youtube mebership of like 5 bucks a month to access (which is why he finally privated his pokemon channel, to try and grad what little money he can from people who do not find rawb.art) and is making some knockoff (unfunny) "spiritual successor" to the original urealms cartoon
Oh, thanks

There's another piece to what happened to Rob this last year, that I think provides some additional context
He was involuntarily committed to a Canadian mental hospital back in June
they held him for the maximum length of time (1 month) and released him
and after that he proceeded to kind of blow his life up, and we're nearing what seems to be the end of his internet career
I've been the main Rob archivist for years, and I'm sure I get 1% the number of DMs about this that Rob does
but there are a LOT of people who have a very personal attachment to his videos/community
Rob's always had a weird perspective on the permanence of his content, and at times frustration with his inability to ever really break through his own creative glass ceiling
Success was an outlier for him, and as time went on it became harder and harder to achieve, and it turned into him kind of just resenting his own past self and his past fans
He's had a couple very public mental breakdowns over the last few years
1) Divorce with Krysta (Sugar) in 2013
2) End of Urealms Live in 2019
3) Spring of 2022
He's had a lot of friends like Nisovin over the years too
Danny (2006-2009)
Tom (2010-2012)
Nisovin (2013-2017)
Tilli (2018-2021)
DaniDip (2021-Present)
Right-hand-men types who handle all of the technical work Rob needs done
Deadbones and Megan fit to a lesser extent, but they were more his creative outlets, where Tom/Nisso were technical
Krysta (2010-2013)
Megan (2013-2022)
Deadbones (2010-2019)
He burned every one of those bridges so thoroughly, that none of them want to even talk about Rob anymore
I can provide a lot more perspective on Rob if you have questions
The take-away is, Rob's gone, he doesn't really exist anymore
between drugs, mental illness, and years of bad influences in his life
I very much can separate current Rob from past Rob, and enjoy his old VODs and stuff
I pin this to the top of https://rawb.art for a reason

Archive of Rob's videos & streams: Watch URealms Live, DvZ, LoM, OldManWillakers, Unforgotten Realms, Buffalo Wizards, Play Mindcrack, Tuna Bandits, and everything else Robert Moran
rawb.artRob is currently on a quest to burn every last bridge in his life
Don't let that detract from enjoying what has been created

Not even Rick Astley's famous song called "Never gonna give you up"
A shame

wait Tilli is a real person???
I forget his name
I almost forgot to include him at all
Found it, Citra
also Jill's bf, but more notable for all the Tilii stuff and helping Rob code or w/e
he can count too
a little different since he was being paid, and it was more transactional
but Rob definitely relied on him for a while

I know he says he looks back on his original pkmnrawb stuff with disdain because it was a dark time for him since it was an outlet for himself post-divorce. That said I feel like in a way Rob was being himself (as much as you can be when entertaining) and it was just fine. The implosion of the weirdo fan base also was probably healthier for him, maybe not financially, but fuck the Monica Rupert shit was so deranged
I find it silly that Rob wants to remove numbers altogether. At the minimum, they should exist to define just how capable an ability is, or to guarantee fairness from a GM on how much each ability does to an enemy
I see Rob must have missed the fact that despite how RP heavy GTA RP is, Cars still do insane damage by ramming, guns still do consistent number based damage, etc.
I mean, you don't actually need any of that to RP, I've done gameplay-less diceless RP before, but at that point, the lack of numbers and perspective and consistency does make it very immaterial alright.
By taking away the numbers and consistency, how do you handle PVP? Outside of letting the DM decides who wins... Roleplay contests between those who roleplay their combat the best? Even a weapon advantage could be theoretically overcome, but its still down to the DM to decide who wins.
Perhaps doable among a group of friends, or those who don't take it too seriously, or even among a group of very skilled roleplayers working together who are going at it with, not the intent to win, but to tell an interesting story. Maybe.
Its not like he hasn't done this before with LoM
sorta
i mean you can go into any public RP server on a game that has them and find out pretty quickly why people use stats and numbers
"actually I dodge"
"actually I activate my special ability that makes me immune to bullets"
"actually I am literally god all along ha ha"
indeed, its called powergaming.
that and having an agreed-upon ruleset allows you to express yourself without limiting yourself like you have to when there are no rules
you aren't nerfing your ideas to make things fair
you are using all your capabilities to the best you can as they are defined
Its better to have a framework for an RP than not. Worst case scenario, you just break out of it and ignore it for some cool stunts or some nonsense.
But once again, that's public RP, between people trying to powergame and win.
maybe the reason rob is so tired of rules and numbers is because he started doing RPG with bopit behind our back...
heheh
begone, rules lawyers
your numbers will be destroyed in front of your face, to make you suffer
instead, I will restrict player freedom by taking away their ability to exist in a consistent universe, to become ultimate master over the roleplay as its God.
"Try to befriend an enemy? Well, I'm not even gonna let you roll for it. For there are no dice. This enemy cannot be befriendeedd"
yes those are the words rob said to bopit last thursday
Alternatively, you could try to let the person do it anyways, and suddenly its more of a judge on who has the best Roleplaying skills, and the ones who do are rewarded way too significantly over other players, creating resentment from other players who aren't as good.
Or, who the DM "thinks is better" than the other
at this point with all this framework shit gone, you may as well abandon the idea of player characters entirely and write a book together.
cooperative book writing is still a better idea
