people will not go to a worse product just to stick it to google

if someone can do something better, they will and they will be successful or they will bring change to established companies
Steam does not need any competition, they are a good company as is
google could use some, but only because it is a shitty company

I am tempted to try one of those premium search engines, but I feel like half the reason I like Google is because it's all integrated on every computer I use, in my browser, on my phone, etc.
and idk if anything else can really do that

that's the issue I think, any field where you can only pick *one* thing of a set of options
you just pick the best
and then all the 2nd/3rd/4th best options get mad that nobody picks them
and then the switching cost is so high, that there's very little incentive to switch

The AI stuff annoys me because its in the way of what I want to actually use the service for
they can have whatever they want but if it is at the top of my search or whatever, I get annoyed

the search itself has become really bad for both
copilot/gpt/gemini/grok/whatever are good for task-based queries
less so for general search/questions
