Dreamt of a nintendo DS game mechanic. In the dream, it was an itch io game and the dude was explaining the story, but I found the mechanic cool. I thought it matches well with a roguelike, but I was stuck listening to his stupid-ass game story. You have a grid of white squares (5x5) and you level up by getting more squares (6x6) etc. You have abilities based on what you draw in those squares. With red, you deal damage based on the polygon area squares, but the size is how many turns of delay you wait to use that polygon again. With blue polygon, same but defense and you choose the order. Green lines, healing based on different colors touching the line and the longer = less delay. Purple was magic defense, you write runes (or letters) into the squares and you can counter their spell if you lined it up. So, the bulk of the squares is red/blue, and you balance filling in green and purple in the cracks.
