There’s a lot of problems that will come with the fact that they’re choosing to make hornet the player character

I'm excited, but you definitely have to design the game around it

she's a lot faster, with hit-and-run moves

The first and most obvious problem: she’s too tall

Having a small player character is very handy when you want a tight platformer and reasonably dodgable attacks

Then there’s the lore perspective, which also ties in with the game’s design philosophy

Hollow knight, similarly to games like dark souls, undertake, and morrowind, do this neat thing where they take common video game conventions and incorporate them into the lore
