I don't think its classified, because that fails the unlocking items requirement of being a metroidvania

modern mario fails because of the connected world requirement, old mario fails for the items requirement

since mushrooms are not exactly items, they are temporary powerups

Mario odyssey is connected through those painting things, it just has no power ups and locked barriers

you can't get from 1 world to another freely

some worlds are connected

not all

The power up thing seems like a stronger point against it than connectivity, since metroidvanias have plenty of dead ends

And metroidvanias are usually combat oriented, combat is almost always optional in mainline Mario

but sunshine literally is a connected world

you go back to levels too

with new nozels

with warps to other areas

i stand by the

seven spears-style midbosses are way harder

than juzou style

7 spears are so easy, you just deflect and mikiri counter

there is no mini boss id call hard

tho that’s probably from learning all their patterns and having them ingrained into my hands

i would say first run or 2 it was o rin

their mikiris are the hardest for me to call

even after multiple NG+s

when they do their long mikiri it tricks my brain

because every single other one

is similar except that one

even the shinobi hunters have delayed ones sometimes but theyre still easier than the seven spears version

it doesnt help that there's only two? one at the start but one at the end

shinobi hunters you can lock into a pretty easy pattern
