anyway, i did actually get 100%. the hunters journal doesnt count, apparently. and the only stuff i looked up was how to get to nyleth and the ant opera queen boss, and then the final tool i was missing because the one page i found with an actually complete list had the location right next to the icon and i glanced it. all those extra hours exploring did pay off i guess
gratz
stuff like currency grinding, a couple of too long runbacks (one in particular was really bad, stupid bilewater) and a couple of spots being so insanely hidden that if i wasn't combing everything for 10 extra hours i would have missed (still missed 2 boss areas, lmao). and a few too many mob swarm fights, again, bilewater boss.
I think it would be hard to argue that; despite their flaws, HK and Silksong aren't some of the highest quality metroidvanias out there
it's frustrating how many missteps Silksong made, and I think there are multiple parts of the game that could easily drive someone to drop the game
but the core metroidvania parts of its DNA are fun
Also, I don't buy for a second anything Team Cherry says about the dev cycle for this game, how it was actually fine and they were just having such a good time developing that they never wanted it to end by having to release a game
See, I'd believe them if they didn't spend the last 5 years being cute about it
The version of Silksong we got is very clearly a "back-to-its-roots" design, and I'm happy with that since I love HK, but the game very much feels like it came together at the end leading up to release, like any normal game would
to the point I'm at, I think HK is better than Silksong by a little bit, but #1 I'm not done with Silksong yet and #2 my praise for the first game isn't that it's perfect or anything
I'll preface again with, I'm not done
but it feels like it needs it
well, that's unfair
it feels like there are some clear things that were in HK as DLC that would be weird if they weren't in Silksong
and in fact, no I will go back and say
if they don't add a Godhome
people will actually be mad
there's a few things like that
I don't think they need to make huge new areas, but there are clearly underbaked areas (like HK v1.0 had) that were planned to be expanded all along
and a bunch of the Silksong NPCs, also feel like they should have more
I'd have to boot the game and look at the map
and remember, HK expansions didn't really add a ton to the map itself
there would be a few new sections of map
but most of it was retooling and adding bosses where it felt like there should be some
and then some QoL stuff (like the teleport)
extra stag stations
balance stuff, etc.
completely unrelated to Hollow Knight
the new Nightreign game mode dropped tonight
it's ok, they REALLY need to balance the progression though
they added a (needed) hard mode, that has a world difficulty multiplier for every run you do successfully
but it's tuned really shittily
5 wins to get a lvl2 world, ~20 wins for a lvl3 world
I feel like with how easy it is to get vertical mobility
that's not too surprising
