well it's sort of kind of like an rts game? I say that in the sense of it being a "watch your giant blob of units fight with an equally giant blob of units" but this game is also kind of turn-based, like you select your king and you have a specific set of cards that you can get from your guy but every turn just about you get to choose another card which could be one of your own or one of the ones from the king you just waged war against

like here I am playing king of blood and I just have a big heaping pile of imps, every turn they recruit more imps from the farm (rightmost front building) and get 6% hp from the forest next to them

I also have the soldiers and the paladins from the king of nothing just as more bodies to blob into combat

my castle pagoda thingy also summons yet more imps and grows stronger each turn because of that quarry in the back

the cauldron in the middle makes all my units do poison stacks

so it's a town building card based auto battler?

yeah in a sense

also a roguelike

each game is 33 turns, at the end of turn 32 you are prompted to play the rest of your cards before facing a champion of the last king you fought

here I had to fight the champion of nature

I also had these little perks from royal decrees that gave me various bonuses, like doubling all my poison effects and making my units move twice as fast and uh

doubling the amount of imps that my pagoda would summon

right now there's only 7 of the 9 kings advertised but that's because early access

whats the deal with that giant cauldron at the centre

it makes it so all units adjacent to it apply one poison stack per level of the cauldron (it was level 3, and with my double poison decree it was effectively 6)

That is quite fascinating

there's the king of nothing who is like, a very basic generalist

king of spells has some pretty shit units but can make them obscenely strong through magic and permanent buffs that can stack

king of greed is all about money

king of blood has many gimmicks revolving around generating hordes of crap units that provide beneficial effects when killed

king of nature also generates many units and has stuff like wild boars that can be rode by your other units

king of stone doesnt actually get many units but his shtick is that he's got a ton of buildings and gimmicks around making your buildings strong

king of progress seems really complicated but I think he's just all about upgrading buildings and units as much as you can

which one would you say is the best

well I dunno which one is the best but I am a sucker for good fundamentals so I think my favorite so far is the king of nothing

since the game is designed around taking cards from other kings and applying them to your king

nothing man allows for you to have sort of clean slates that you can build off of

and I just had a swarm of mounted archers with very high damage and attack speed

then I had the wall of paladins to go in front and take damage

Ill check it out, I'll pirate it tonight to see if I like it

the only moral rule that I abide by is to never pirate indie games

THEY are catching on to this line of thinking though

which is why theres so many big studios that call themselves indie

I pirated deltarune because 25 dollars for a game that is 4/7ths finished is RETARDED!!!

I pirate most indies to check if they are worth purchasing

most of them are not

I think you need to understand what you are as an indie

Anything over 10 bucks is way too much in most cases

Deltarune is CERTAINLY not an exception

deltarune is not an indie game

thus, when a friend had pirated it and offered it to me

it just doesnt pass the smell test

despite claiming to be one

and like yeah sure small studio put lot of time and effort into game but like

small studio not independent

small studio in pocket of nintendo

Indie games have to be priced at a point where you can spend that money and not give a shit if the game is bad

and on that note i'm happy to announce my indie game just bob and his bicycle for 0.99 USD

I never bought Undertale, and the games are fun and the ost is good. One of the few times the money felt well spent in really dont care about waiting for the chapters

My umbrage with deltarune is that it'd be like undertale, where all of my fellow autists have already thoroughly explored and documented the content of the game and I have consumed that media while I wasn't playing it. so when I actually go to play it, none of it would be a surprise to me and most of the story beats would fall super flat

At least I didn't pay for undertale either
