You can publish a port that has a packed in emulator, that is arguably a way of making a port of all time
Most sega collections are emulating the games, as an example
Ocarina of time on gamecube similarily is emulating the N64 iirc

It was not steam, it was the service they use for two factor auth
Likely the worst that will happen steam wise is an uptick in phishing emails now that some connecting info is out there
Valve is also a good company anyways, so if they did get hacked I gaurentee you they hash/salt/ etc all of their passwords so it is less risky than a lot of companies who just store passwords in retarded ways

For a new indie, I think it works well
since most sales are word of mouth later anyways
AAA would lose like 60% of their sales, but newer indies that did not do much marketing benifit from it
