Gameplay should always be at the top, you can experience everything else in another medium

OST is nice, i appreciate a good OST, but i will just accept a "ok" or forgettable ost

the importance of story varies so wildly from game to game, i cant see it ever being the primary important thing in a general ranking of "gameplay > story > ost > etc"

Gameplay and OST are the two that always matter, story and characters depend on the game

despite caring about the story the most, I play a shitload of simple puzzle games and such, and there are games that obviously have no in-built story like Dwarf Fortress that I think are excellent

and honestly, "story" is a bad term to use

it's everything that encompasses the narrative, characters, worldbuilding, writing, etc. which I think is the bedrock of any form of media

that matters the most to me, and the presentation matters the most after that

Most people have very low standards for video game stories anyway

Good soundtrack has a lot of staying power

I can forgive a game with okay story, art, etc if it has a banger ost and good gameplay

I cannot forgive the opposite as easily

Games should of course avoid having any category as bad, I think its more meaninful to discuss games that range from passable to great for each

Those margins are more interesting

I did do a run of jump game, because I was trying to beat it before lamp could be the final levels

yeah, I like how Pika did his list, both write-ups and his whole 100%ing things

My format was stealing Vinny's twitter format but making it better

I don't 100% most games, I think the only game this year that I did was Wukong and some of the smaller games

I also tried to not include demos, other than 1 that was essentially the full game

I 100% any game that the ratio of "I like this game" to "this will be really annoying to 100%" is skewed heavily enough towards I like this game

I would have 100%'d mario rpg had the post game not been complete ass

the only steam game i have 100% on is because every achievement is "beat this stage in campaign"

honestly, I don't think most of my games are 100%able

because I wanted zero justification to say I did not play my christmas gift, and it only took 35 minutes

and the ones that are, I just have no interest in 100%ing them

almost 14 if I dropped 40 more hours in Balatro

I really am right at the end of finishing that game

I just don't care about achievement hunting at all. I do what i want to do within the course of the game and then stop. I find achievement hunting detrimental to my experience most of the time and it makes me like the game less

Also would have been +1 if I spent an hour and grinded out the boss of the shantae game hitless

since that is all I have to do for that

I also bought a lot of games in 2024, that I've not gotten around to playing yet

because a big game would drop and suck up all my time

Spooky, I have infact been game purchase positive somehow, I made all my forever purchases that I never played when I was younger

I think steam sales being on average less good plays a large part

also I cleared some of my past forever purchases by actually playing random things I own like VVVVV this year

Wukong really was the best thing that came out last year

I think if I did not also watch more anime than I have ever watched this past year, I would have completed 10 more games

Fate Samurai Remnant DLC was really good, but I'm not going to count that

Watching 10-15 shows a season 2-3 seasons in a row really cut into my gaming

I think the stupidest choices I made as far as 100%ing games was holocure and balatro

I do not regret either, but those were actual timesinks

i have games i own that i havent finished or even started and half the time its i have something else to do (anime, youtube video(s) i really wanna watch, etc), or i just cant get in the mood to play it

Dialga, to be absolutely fair, I am really bad at finishing games too

Not as much anymore
