no it is, sorry, those numbers don't overlap
I edited to make it more clear
they're losing 450 total, of that 220 are being fired and 230 are being reassigned to other places in Sony
that's ~35% of their staff total they're losing
Marathon is now Bungies only project in development
the content vault thing they did, where they'd remove story content to keep the game file size down and "streamline" things
made me never want to pick it up
Hear me out, make the high rez textures free DLC
holy shit you cut your game size in half
thats crazy
But Pika, what if I want to swap between RAW audio from 30 different languages without reloading the game
Polar, no one does that
thats the joke
it is the obvious way to reduce file size when most gamers do not need 4k textures (don't even have a 4k monitor)
that's like 99% of the file bloat problem, textures and audio
yeah, making languages all DLC as well
I want Marathon to be good, but with the delays and lack of chatter about it make me think it's in dev hell
so you get your base audio, and you can get whatever other one you want
Replying to Spooky Phijkchu #spooky.131 that's like 99% of the file bloat problem, textures and audio
it's audio more than textures now adays for most games
interesting, I was not aware
yeah honestly, just turn it all into shitty mp3s
yup, it's getting worse too, where people are baking in support for redarded codecs too
in case you have Dolby Atmos speakers to tickle your ceiling
better dedicate 4 extra audio channels to that
Game devs realizing they can just not optimize because retards will just put up with 100+ GB games is the worst thing to happen to the game industry
Cutscenes I'm mixed on, I really don't want devs to move to streaming cutscenes
but yeah, they are often a 10GB+ chunk of file space
even for games with few movies in them
did you know video game dunkey managed to get his game file size down to less than 50 MBs
100%, I also think devs do better work when they have to work around restrictions
it makes them have to be creative
Part of the problem is also the death of AA games
and how everything is either indie or a huge multi million dollar project

https://store.steampowered.com/app/771560/FFXV_WINDOWS_EDITION_4K_Resolution_Pack/ this is the only game I can remember doing that
FFXV WINDOWS EDITION 4K Resolution Pack
This pack allows you to enjoy FINAL FANTASY XV in high resolution.
store.steampowered.comI think just making everything that you do not need to run the game modular to allow people to costumize how much space the game takes up is the move
different languages audio, hd textures, etc
what stumps me about is that games do this for textures but not audio sometimes, like yes big hefty audio is an issue, but you can stoll make it sound good without it taking a bunch of space
like when i posted in max chat that specially the ps4 version of skyrim, it doesn't have raw losseless audio but it's not insanely compressed and bit crushed like every other version
Yeah, audio is easier to tell for most people

I think it is more like that the person playing has a decent headset than them having a 4k monitor
I think there is two camps max
proper headset and 20 dollar headset
I am moreso talking about a lot of people will just have beats or something like that
Polu, big news
Jonathan Blow's Braid re-release flopped
and he had to lay off all 12 of his devs
he's trying to solo-dev his new game to finish it, which has ~8 years of work put into it to this point
