it's actually genius
normies will think that "Embracer" the company that they hate because capitalism bad, is gone
and all of their corporate debt gets essentially wiped because they've figured out a way to offload it all onto a board gaming subsidiary that encompasses something like 85% of all global board game revenue

yep, kickstarter just became a pre-order platform
it's kind of weird
I feel like at this point, board games are basically just made-to-order via those campaigns, with no intention of any sort of direct sales or retail afterwards
maybe a re-run kickstarter with an expansion, but thats it
it's why prices are so crazy too
I at least appreciate TTS being a universal platform, even if the game mechanics are poorly implemented via scripts
it's the standalone digital board games I can't stand
$20 game, you'll need to buy unique copies for everyone you want to play with
and $25 of DLC for all the expansions
so it's ~$125, if you want to play with a full group of 5 players
TTS is more of a platform game than a game game
you buy it for the use of the platform of TTS
buying an individual board game for 20 dollars each is just not worth it

there is paid DLC, that some brands work with TTS to put out, it doesn't sell though and the files are just uploaded for free anyway
Okay spooky, 10 dollar board game, and they sell a DLC for a friend pass where if you buy it you can host games for people who do not own the game, otherwise they also have to own the game

I think games that are not online multiplayer servers, but not singleplayer at all kind of have to do this or else fuck them

yep, and tbh the reason for them to host the servers rather than just making them be self-host is marketing
you want dumb Twitch vtubers to play your game without having to mess around with setting up lobbies or anything on their end
the trivial cost for server infra is just a part of marketing
TTS is more compelling overall, sure
but reduce the barrier to entry and I think people would buy standalones
TTS covers most casual cases
I think a TTS that is more fine tuned for the DnD autists but is similar to TTS is the only thing that could be made that also sells in a similar way as TTS
