investment group came along and bought up THQ & THQ Nordic to revive the AA-game industry
and then (using Saudi loans) bought up pretty much every notable independent AA developer, which is what Microsoft/Sony have been doing as well
then, the Saudi money stopped coming, they were massively in debt and have had a string of underwhelming/bad releases
so everything fell apart
Embracer collapsing is probably a sign that a game industry crash is coming imo
Replying to Spooky Phijkchu #spooky.131 Embracer collapsing is probably a sign that a game industry crash is coming imo
anyway i've been hoping for all these major western game companies to collapse for years and years
Ubi and Take2 treat all there different sattelite studios as seperate entities for some reason
when a lot of them are just glorified remote-work campuses
Square Enix is also a weird in-between player not on this list
I think they're the biggest remaining non-aligned studio group
Replying to Dialga #god_of_time it can only be good for the industry for them to collapse
I'm worried that indie devs are saying all the money for new projects has been drying up
I was hoping a collapse would be top-down, rather than bottom-up
2032 Post-collapse: only two games exist:
- GTA6
- SuperGacha: Multiverse Waifu Harem Extreme DX
Switch 2 turns out to be nothing but amibos and companion mobile apps
If Nintendo ever loses their pipeline of new kids becoming invested in Mario
That's kind of what has been happening to Disney, their iconic characters/brands are becoming less and less of a draw

An update is finally maybe coming out
Replying to Dialga #god_of_time hey elder scrolls 6 too spooky
You joke about this but
100% skyrim will be released still and have more staying power than ES6

I choose to believe those are yours
and Vinny is frantically trying to DM you to buy them
ok that's super cool

Valheim announced this roadmap in 2022
Ok, I read into the Embracer split
it's actually genius
normies will think that "Embracer" the company that they hate because capitalism bad, is gone
and all of their corporate debt gets essentially wiped because they've figured out a way to offload it all onto a board gaming subsidiary that encompasses something like 85% of all global board game revenue
Embracer 1: is going to publish larger AA and AAA games
Embracer 2: is going to publish smaller AA games
yes
that 3rd company contains zero video game developers
it's all board games
and comics maybe? I think Dark Horse is involved here somehow too
ok you're right, they're included in Embracer 1
I assume it wont happen, but it would be weird if this workaround ended up killing board games
yep, kickstarter just became a pre-order platform
it's kind of weird
I feel like at this point, board games are basically just made-to-order via those campaigns, with no intention of any sort of direct sales or retail afterwards
maybe a re-run kickstarter with an expansion, but thats it
it's why prices are so crazy too
