I think its super early aswell, but they were testing the waters at a tribe reboot and it got more attention then they expected.

I think tribes will always be a niche game, so I wonder how much they could milk with cosmetics. Quake Champions does it but it's IP and Dev are much bigger.

still confused why this happened at all, for as shit 76 is it basically was the highest quality the creation engine has ever reached and starfield went back straight to fallout 4 because that's the build it started on
taxes games
also noticed the same issues and clear signs of emil pagliarulo writing and game design that I talked about 2 months ago
taxes games
an example being the anti-gravity combat, no design document means they didnt know whether or not thatd actually be implemented, so if you cant work on quests or gameplay or story with the idea that "this mechanic will exist" than you cant implement it
taxes games
the video does a pretty good job showing where in development certain things changed, and compiles a lot of the todd/pre-release interviews that show daming evidence about stuff that once could of been good but got fucked

Not doing proper planning is universally an underlying cause of poor quality
emil pagliarulo belives that there should be zero game design document because it "takes time" to constnatly update them

bethesda quest writer, who became the lead writer of fallout 4
and he only became the lead writer of fallout 4, because his quests in oblivion and skyrim were popular only because they got the most dev time/work put into them
taxes games
and now he ended up writing all the nonexistent lore for starfield and made a bunch of dedscisions about/for the game with very little pushback

i think this mentality is especially ridiculous for a space game, where your indepth mechanics should be whats carrying your games immersion
taxes games
maybe for a fantasy rpg or something much less mechanically indepth, but going into quest design not knowing what features- mechanics- or rules should even exist for something like that is insane

part of starfields issues though is also todds fault, and their mentality of wanting the game to be for everyone and have no inconvineces
taxes games
planets having enviormental setbacks that make it so you ened to prepare for differnet types of enviroments? "Too annoying to the player and makes it so they can't "play their way""
taxes games
these are actual choices they made to simplify the game to make it more applicable for "everyone", turning the mechanical complexity down and down
