I saw a really cringe game thismorning that made my laugh at TGS

it took..... a lot of inspiration from certain games

the first Faantsy Life was good so i was hoping this would be too

i watched some lies of p, gameplay wise its WAY more like sekiro than bloodborne

its like, inbetween DS1 and DS3 speed, then the gameplay is based on blocking rather than dodging because the dodgeroll sucks

and they do the sekrio red unblockable attacks, but there's no differing symbol for grabs, unblockables and etc. so you just have to guess from the animation, which is fine in sekiro because grabs always have the character reaching for you, thrusts always have them pull back before thrusting hard and powerful attacks have a long charge up and are usually jumpable in many cases

i did notice too that one of the boses is just a copy of darkbeast paarl, like a few of its attacks are strinkingly similar even if the design is nothing alike

and its phase 2 is even lightning

it seems in general with a lot of fights and mechanics they copied them from soulslike games without actually understanding what the purpose of them is even for

i laughed at souls being dropped outside of fog gates though thats pretty funny

That's been a problem with most soulslikes

i dont think soulsgames r perfect by any margin, most have weird uneeding features or poor mechanics in some places

but copying core near-perfected mechanics and not understanding their purpose is poor

argubly sekiro and DS2 are the only ones that are this tight, and even DS2 has its torches and sekiro has its shields which are dropped pretty fast

a good equivalent as well is fallout 4 and starfields obsession with radiant quests without understanding that even the average gamer likes a little background to their quests instead of just slop

a big one for lies of p is the near-useless "dodge roll" its barely a dodge roll in the first place and even in the demo im not sure why it existed, even in sekiro to balance the dodge being far they just made enemies smarter and track you better to encourage parrying, but it didnt make it awful

lies of p gives you the equivalent of walking backwards as a "dodge" to encourage parrying/perfect blocks

the game also seems REALLY scared of making the player feel like "that section was bullshit"

which is fair I guess, you don't need to copy that from darksouls, but its like their design prompt said to make sections like that, but then jsut tone them down

"what if we did the classic archers of anor londo, but their bullets didnt actually push you, and they usually just miss if you walk forward" "what if we copied cieling jumpscares but the enemies have to start up" "what if we had enemies hiding, but they again need startup time"

game seems fine though but i think it got overadervtised for what it is

normies will like it
