except at the end of the game where he and every other main npc you had shows up and prays to you for the final battle giving you unlimited source just for the final battle

i think its easier to like and get into the combat in this for a few reasons

one is that action economy is a lot easier/harder to maximize because no ap system two is that buffs are extremely limited so they don't expect you to prebuff, three is it doesnt have divinites fucking awful armor/CC system so and i think four, the most important one- is that in D&D you are given your new abilities via level up, so you can't pull a rusp and just ignore every skillbook vendor

you are FORCED to get new spells and abilities

I think divinity’s armor system is fucking ass

if you know how to play it it works, but it essnetially forces you to play

or full caster

the only reason i don't hate it that much is that archer can be magic and there's a physical damage caster

In DND you are EXPECTED to have a diverse team

and it just so happens necro is the strongest in the game so it feels balanced and fine

Where as with divinity it’s same type or bust

on normal difficulty in divinity you can have a split team it doesnt matter

you should just not do 3/1

I think nothing in that game is intuitive

its very much a trial by error game

which if you enjoy that can be very fun

but if you don't its very bad

if you're not thinking "what am I doing wrong, how can I improve my combat"

if you enjoy expiermentation, and learning from your mistakes

then you will enjoy the game

if not then you won't

the terrain and CC system lends itself into that too

the games difficulty scales not only with your actual characters but it expects you to learn and understand its systems, from 3->4 you don't actually get that much stronger but the fights scale a lot more

because by that point they expect you to know to combo your abilites, use source skills

etc.

its why they have the arx filter and the giant refugee camp before it with skillbook vendors of all types

every fight expects you to be using the 3 source point abilties

Just by exploring a city

that do like 10k damage aoe

do i think it's perfect? not really

but i do think it's kinda ridiculous a lot of people complain about it and then don't have any new skills learned the past 20 hours and aren't using the insane abilites that the entire plot of act 2 is getting

like the plot of act 2 is getting those source points, just so you're strong enough and powerful enough- i.e. able to use said abilites

i think if they made source full restore after resting itd be more intuitive

but the difficulty you felt was more you refusing to go along with the games systems- which isn't your fault but more so the game not being for you

you wanted your levels to carry you alone

which isn't necisiarilly bad

5e/bg3 is the exact opposite of that though. you can't get better than full plate- unless you get something with godly effects, so realistically your act 1 equipment and weapons once you get a +1, can carry you the entire game probably

and since your levels give you everything you need, you can very much go through the whole game without touching a single merchant and just beelining quests

which again, is a valid and absolutely fine way to want to play a game
