I have only seen a couple of Ghibli movies and aside from the animation quality I don't get the appeal. Spiritied Away is full of scenes that serve no purpose other than to show off their animation.
Like they don't have a greater meaning to the plot
That's not a bad thing but I expect better considering the reviews

at least as far as non arguable this is alright animated films go
Actually I didn't understand the story at all the first time. Kids can enjoy them and not understand.
Think about all the innuendos that were slipped into kids shows back in the day. Did you get them?

I didn't just mean sexual ones. Also ones relating to death, drugs, etc.
I get that people read manga as escapism but I don't understand reading stories about people who have extreme advantages that use them to solve their problems.
It just feeds people's delusions that they can do or get or get away with anything

Replying to legorhin #jazardly I don't hate the overpowered main character trope if its not done lazily because it can be a variant of the skilled mentor archetype that acts as the protagonist (edited)
Overpowered main character can be done alright but I prefer if they're not. Main ways it's used not-badly is in a purely comedic sense (the fights aren't serious to begin with) or if the protagonist has good reason to hide/restrict their abilities. The protagonist having low self esteem needs to have justification for me.

If I remember the main character beats up some thugs under a bridge then monologues to a girl for like 5 minutes

Eminence is one of those shows that has really good payoffs, but the (self-aware) cringe is even a bit high for me at times
early S2 was too much
When it comes to chuuni characters, there's a fine line between amusing and annoying. Irl I'm sure you would find someone like that annoying.
