Real take is that most anime that do not complete the story are better for it
Yeah most of my top anime did not adapt their source material in full.

I think it may actually all be a dream since it has that dreamlike plot. Things happen and the boy just goes alomg with it like it makes perfect sense. Probably got knocked real hard by that rock. Anyway the plot is about grief and letting go, also herons are untrustworthy and pelicans are dangerous fascists.
I have only seen a couple of Ghibli movies and aside from the animation quality I don't get the appeal. Spiritied Away is full of scenes that serve no purpose other than to show off their animation.

Actually I didn't understand the story at all the first time. Kids can enjoy them and not understand.
Think about all the innuendos that were slipped into kids shows back in the day. Did you get them?

I didn't just mean sexual ones. Also ones relating to death, drugs, etc.
I get that people read manga as escapism but I don't understand reading stories about people who have extreme advantages that use them to solve their problems.
It just feeds people's delusions that they can do or get or get away with anything

Replying to legorhin #jazardly I don't hate the overpowered main character trope if its not done lazily because it can be a variant of the skilled mentor archetype that acts as the protagonist (edited)
Overpowered main character can be done alright but I prefer if they're not. Main ways it's used not-badly is in a purely comedic sense (the fights aren't serious to begin with) or if the protagonist has good reason to hide/restrict their abilities. The protagonist having low self esteem needs to have justification for me.
