I've been to three numbered schools, ps127 in brooklyn, ps26 and is 72 here on staten island

my high school's official name was Community High School District <number>

In Virginia, they're almost all named after the region, or famous (Virginian) people

the unofficial names are all based on region

Is72 was named after some random police officer

dutch schools are just named after great scientists or artists

Never found out what he did to make them name the school after him

plenty of dutch great people to choose from

i think the main reason I could never stand to go through school in the North would be hearing "The Civil war was about slavery"

those lines make it seem like it was a major part

i always heard the civil war had nothing to do with slavery

"nothing" is a stretch but you had a good teacher than

fighting for states rights, which Lincoln ended by expanding federal power greatly

Lincoln was on the ballot in 4 southern states

you kind of lose the right to govern, when you quite purposefully don't run in 50% of the country, because you "know you can win" with a Northern strategy

without a mandate to govern

why the fuck should any state stay in the union

for as divided as our country is now

every state (for the most part) is 40%-60% for either side

that the South was going to be under their boot, unless they reform

they held out the offer that they'd mantain slavery (Lincoln ran on keeping the institution as is)

but the veiled threat that is the South stepped out of line, they were done

the emancipationists were an influencing factor

in the North at least
