Most of the latency is because xiv waits for a response from the server before it lets anything go through, Alexander just kinda skips waiting for that response and let’s your abilities go through when you hit them

If you want there’s a kinda grey area tool that fixes a lot of those issues called xivalexander

Like cooldowns, mitigation etc

Also on the latency thing, I wouldn’t know for sure since I don’t really know anything about wow, but isn’t most stuff client-side there?

People used to straight up skip the 1% extra damage from having a caster in your party to bring both

Understandable, though ironically brd and mch did absolutely cracked damage in hw

Oh yeah and I get wanting free movement, I started on BRD in ARR because of that, but xiv kinda just doesn’t have much that requires that free movement

But the built in weird shit is gone

Everything is server-side so you’ll get latency based on your proximity to them

I mean not outside of just normal latency though

The game had a built in 100ms for some reason back in ARR but that was fixed in HW

Nah that’s not the case anymore

Which means you can move freely after a certain point without interrupting your cast

Xiv also has a kinda weird mechanic where your casts technically go through to the server about 2 3rds into the cast time

Was fun

I loved HW BRD, that shit was my jam, the 1.5s casts let you weave an off-global every gcd and move around mostly freely

Pain in the ass honestly

After that it wasn’t worth it iirc

You did that up to about 3 targets yeah

Since they don’t proc your shit

It’s pretty funny actually, bard aoe used to be all about putting up multiple dots to get procs for your big damage sources, but now it’s not even worth putting them up outside of 1-2 targets

I thought you were referring to old changes, didn’t realize they increases the duration again

It is actually double the ticks, server ticks are at 3s intervals in this game and the dots went from 15-30 right

Dots used to proc all your damage sources of bard, but now that’s not even the case anymore iirc

Brd is a good example of that actually

Honestly they had it right the first time, but for every expansion after it’s just kinda gone in weird directions

And they just kinda removed that

Now it’s just in a weird state of being a pseudo warrior clone with more button mashing

Yeah DRK is weird, used to be a lot more about just managing your mp but they’ve move away from that with time

You lose too much damage by doing it

Well you always wanna finish your combo at least, 1-2 for mp sounds good but it’s a lower gain in the long run

And with the stat squish we have no way of really knowing anyways

But that wouldn’t really matter since the potencies didn’t really change, they were just converted iirc

They’ve slowly removed most of the specialized buffs for either type
