I'm pretty sure the BRD ones last 15 sec longer but have half the potency

Dots used to proc all your damage sources of bard, but now that’s not even the case anymore iirc

That's a significant damage loss, because you're doubling the potency, but only increasing the amount of ticks by 30%

It is actually double the ticks, server ticks are at 3s intervals in this game and the dots went from 15-30 right

Okay, so if its 50 pot, 30 sec, 10 ticks, 500 pot. 25 pot, 45 sec, 15 ticks, 375 pot

So it lasts longer, but does 75% of the damage.

75% of the total damage over a longer duration.

It’s pretty funny actually, bard aoe used to be all about putting up multiple dots to get procs for your big damage sources, but now it’s not even worth putting them up outside of 1-2 targets

Did you have to DoT each target individually? I stayed away from shadow priest in WoW because it was an absolute beast for all of Legion, but I HATED using a GCD and 1.5s(before haste) applying Vampiric Touch, another GCD for Shadow Word: Pain, swapping target, repeating for every single target in a fight

You did that up to about 3 targets yeah

After that it wasn’t worth it iirc

I wanted to try BRD when I started playing in 2015, until I found out that you had to hardcast everything starting at 52, so I stayed away from ranged until returning and saw that they decided to get rid of that.

I loved HW BRD, that shit was my jam, the 1.5s casts let you weave an off-global every gcd and move around mostly freely

"Mostly" freely is the problem.

Xiv also has a kinda weird mechanic where your casts technically go through to the server about 2 3rds into the cast time

Which means you can move freely after a certain point without interrupting your cast

It's because with the best possible connection you can have, you're running at a minimum of 250-300ms

The game had a built in 100ms for some reason back in ARR but that was fixed in HW

Cuz right now, I can pop a defensive, and the delay between the time I press the button and the time the animation starts for activating it is SIGNIFICANTLY longer than when I activated an ability in WoW with 30-40ms

Oh yeah and I get wanting free movement, I started on BRD in ARR because of that, but xiv kinda just doesn’t have much that requires that free movement

Yep, I heard people were mad that BRD got to do good damage in ARR while moving freely, so they made them hardcast in HW, and then they did MASSIVE damage.

Also on the latency thing, I wouldn’t know for sure since I don’t really know anything about wow, but isn’t most stuff client-side there?

Some stuff is client-side, some stuff is server-side.

Like cooldowns, mitigation etc

The client and server have to communicate regardless, but the server for WoW reads data what feels like 50 times more often than FFXIV

If you want there’s a kinda grey area tool that fixes a lot of those issues called xivalexander

Most of the latency is because xiv waits for a response from the server before it lets anything go through, Alexander just kinda skips waiting for that response and let’s your abilities go through when you hit them

I've mostly adjusted at this point, the thing I still have a little bit of adjusting to get used to use popping multiple oGCDs, because some oGCDs have animations or some type of delay before letting you pop another

But it's really not a big issue for me; I stopped playing WoW... right around 9.0.5's release, so I think end of March, beginning of April, picked this back up in August I think? So I had a good amount of time to disconnect, didn't hop right from one to the other.

The latency wasn't as much of an issue to get used to as the snapshotting was.

That is the biggest thing I’ve heard talked about from people coming over yeah ahah

I think in retail, the only snapshotting that exists still is for one ability for feral druids, which I don't know why it still has it.

Also I’m sure you’ve been told/know, but addons and similar things aren’t really supported

Though at the same time SE has no way of seeing what you’re doing with your game files, so there’s tons of stuff out there
