It’s pretty funny actually, bard aoe used to be all about putting up multiple dots to get procs for your big damage sources, but now it’s not even worth putting them up outside of 1-2 targets
sudo TPK general
Did you have to DoT each target individually? I stayed away from shadow priest in WoW because it was an absolute beast for all of Legion, but I HATED using a GCD and 1.5s(before haste) applying Vampiric Touch, another GCD for Shadow Word: Pain, swapping target, repeating for every single target in a fight
sudo TPK general
I wanted to try BRD when I started playing in 2015, until I found out that you had to hardcast everything starting at 52, so I stayed away from ranged until returning and saw that they decided to get rid of that.
kaze general
I loved HW BRD, that shit was my jam, the 1.5s casts let you weave an off-global every gcd and move around mostly freely
kaze general
Xiv also has a kinda weird mechanic where your casts technically go through to the server about 2 3rds into the cast time
sudo TPK general
Cuz right now, I can pop a defensive, and the delay between the time I press the button and the time the animation starts for activating it is SIGNIFICANTLY longer than when I activated an ability in WoW with 30-40ms
kaze general
Oh yeah and I get wanting free movement, I started on BRD in ARR because of that, but xiv kinda just doesn’t have much that requires that free movement
sudo TPK general
"...Why would I bother playing this for 51 levels, moving freely, then have to hardcast or do absolute shit for damage? Why not just play BLM in that case?"
sudo TPK general
Yep, I heard people were mad that BRD got to do good damage in ARR while moving freely, so they made them hardcast in HW, and then they did MASSIVE damage.
kaze general
Also on the latency thing, I wouldn’t know for sure since I don’t really know anything about wow, but isn’t most stuff client-side there?
kaze general
Most of the latency is because xiv waits for a response from the server before it lets anything go through, Alexander just kinda skips waiting for that response and let’s your abilities go through when you hit them
sudo TPK general
I've mostly adjusted at this point, the thing I still have a little bit of adjusting to get used to use popping multiple oGCDs, because some oGCDs have animations or some type of delay before letting you pop another
sudo TPK general
But it's really not a big issue for me; I stopped playing WoW... right around 9.0.5's release, so I think end of March, beginning of April, picked this back up in August I think? So I had a good amount of time to disconnect, didn't hop right from one to the other.
kaze general
Though at the same time SE has no way of seeing what you’re doing with your game files, so there’s tons of stuff out there
kaze general
Japan has stricter laws about collecting data from users iirc, even if the game could do it I don’t think they’d be allowed to
sudo TPK general
I actually got temp banned from WoW back in like 2006 because it detected Cheat Engine and ASpeeder on my computer, because DS emulators in 2006 ran like shit so I used programs like that to get them to run faster.
sudo TPK general
I'm like, "...That's so fucking stupid. Even if I was trying to use these programs in WoW, I can't speed up the server. If anything, this would make me DDoS the server."
sudo TPK general
Then again, now knowing the exact hardware the servers were hosted on in 2006, it actually may have been possible for just a couple computers with Cheat Engine to DDoS a server...
kaze general
To summarize though since I need to go exercise for the day, if you’re interested in raiding whatsoever I’d just jump into it once you’re max, every job is viable and if you put in effort even the statistically worst ones will outperform someone who doesn’t. Food, pots and whatever the minimum ilvl is for a certain fight is usually all you NEED to get going and the later into a tier you start the cheaper that will be
kaze general
Ultimates are big marathon fights that take a lot more effort to clear, but honestly anyone can do it if they’re committed to actually doing it
sudo TPK general
It feels fucking awful when you're playing a melee DPS, parsing in the 80-85th percentile for your class/spec, and you're below another melee DPS parsing 36th percentile for their class/spec.
