Yeah, I like maintaining the archive because I think he genuinely was one of the funniest/talented people from his era of the Internet

That's another crazy part
imo, Rob's career (if you think of it like a series of coin flips at every decision point)
He made the wrong choice EVERY TIME
From when he started series, where he posted, what platforms he used
He was too early SO MANY TIMES, backed the wrong game, made the wrong call
The paywall was to spite old fans
He hated his old work, and being unable to attain the same heights again
He became obsessed with forcing viral videos for a while
Every friend/college Rob had online made it huge
He personally helped so many people who all became rich/successful
From the early Newgrounds/YouTube/Twitch days
Remember, Rob was an original streamer on Justin.tv when it became Twitch
He was on the front page almost every time he streamed
And then he cut back streaming to focus on videos, the same time that streaming blew up
He was posting to Blip.tv and his own site, rather than YouTube for forever
Even URealms, when he was early to the DND/ttrpg roleplay craze, he tried to push his viewers off-site and made the streams hard for casual viewers to find
It's was a decade+ of simple excusable mistakes
That cost him success
And a few years ago (spurred on by coke) he just snapped
He's basically off the Internet now, he streams occasionally and has some small Minecraft servers he runs for 1-2 dozen people
But the ride is over
A few years ago, I think we all hoped that
He had his mental breakdown 3rd midlife crisis thing
But I personally thought he'd turn it around
But instead he phoned in content on-stream for a while, while also antagonizing his community and spurning once-friendly content creators
After a couple years of that, gradually fading, he walked away
But yeah, a focused effort ay any point, he could have turned it around

Nobody said the drugs were the only reason, but it’s definitely a huge factor, especially in his burn out
Mint we could literally watch the physical decline in real time
and surprise, surprise, after he came back from the mental hold and seemed to not be doing drugs (as much), he looked way better
Drugs did not make him an asshole, but they did make him a paranoid skitzophreniac
Mint, I don't like chalking it up to solely "mental illness"
Because that takes any responsibility out of it
Rob made a lot of bad decisions, but a lot of them were fueled by coke and whatever schitzo/manic shit he had going on
Seeing him medicated, he's WAY more like his old self, albeit burnt the fuck out
drugs did make him who he is currently
a worse version of who he was
which was also an asshole
its not just lived experience
idk why you are coping about drugs not altering your brain chemistry
Replying to mint #wimint drugs didnt make him who he was or is, but drugs were an awful thing to throw in that mix
There are probably some subset of fans who would say the early Minecrack stuff was only good because Rob had just started smoking weed
But in general I agree with you, I just think there's a balance between him making bad decisions that cause his mental state to spiral and him being who he is/was
Where does RFK stand on that Leg
Are we getting fun cokes back
