Replying to Pyrrhic #swiss_army_cheese I get really bothered with the idea of people buying me lots of black socks. It does NOT make it easier to find a pair. When you are given a variety of socks, you can instantly know when you have a matching pair or not But if they're all mostly black, I spend so much time staring at them, searching for brand markings, comparing sizes, checking if all the frills are exactly the same when they're inside out and not inside out, and heaven help me if one sock in a pair has lost it's elasticity.
This happens to me too actually. Sometimes two socks that look functionally the same feel different because they’re of different brands

[2021] Alexander Robertson led a study that suggests text messages and social media posts that contain yellow emojis are seen as having been written by White people, a study suggests.
informatics.ed.ac.ukAll colors aside from yellow are weird to use
same with selecting alt-gendered emojis

this is one of my favorites
though the Discord one is not as good as other versions of it
Had an epythany that having the secord word in my discord account be "Gades", which is the name of an evil god from the Lufia games might be idoletry.
So I'm thinking of deleting my entire discord account, or atleast renaming it. But I'm not sure what my default name should be on other servers.
nah, Follow Pika's lead

If its following my lead, you smash your keyboard and get something name shaped
Can you add + AI to signify AI's increasing importance in our daily lives

You know what, I am going to cross post this from my dms with polu, because I guess this can be server lore
yes
weird
Also, has the "slide a letter under a random door" ever worked for anything?
If I was home I would've called the number they left to tell them it was not me
but uh, after the second letter I am just going to go tell the super that if I was reported for this, it was impossible for it to be me
I'd probably start thumping tbh, whenever the actual noise stopped I'd start
I am a tad more polite than you are
I think the first contact someone makes with you, being a letter slid under a door is impolite
I presume they knocked first before they opted to do a letter
but of course, I was not home
but yeah, apartment etiquette is weird
usually around colleges it tends to be better, since most people are students and have above-room-temp IQs
Yeah, except I do not live where students live (they all live on shithouse row right next to the school)
all old people and young families here
hopefully your building supervisor shares w/e funny story is going on with you
I doubt it, he's also old

this fat kid in my graphics lab was stimming doing a typing speed test. he got like 66 wpm. it was that fake easy one with all lowercase and no symbols too. genuinely had to hold in my laughter.
don't all those tests even sorta tell you that you suck if you score low
I'm impressed by anything over 120, good shit Pirate
also yeah, I like Monkeytype
I thought it sorta negged you if you scored low, guess not
when you have the loudest keyboard on earth, you're obligated to not be a typingcel

I think a lot of them post shit like "you're BELOW AVERAGE" if you score low because they also advertise some kind of typing course or want you to do typing practice while you watch more ads
I was going through physical documents at work this week, that were all from the 90s, most older than I am
And rather than this being a normal Spooky rant about old things or w/e, I started thinking about the internet
~2011 is the breakpoint year I arrived at, anything before then is "old" anything after that is part of the modern web and our zeitgeist
And that association is insane, given that is 15 years ago at this point.
But when existing on the internet, it sorta feels right to say, because when you look around *that's when everything happened,
When you look at the ideas, projects, websites, and people from that era, there was still so much human-ness, sovl to be found
When you dig into anything, so often it all stems from something some guy was doing in 2014-2018, or thereabouts
And I think for the generation before us, that's how they felt about the 90s, their culture, the early web, etc.
Their era died in 2000-2001, and I feel like our era died during that 2020-2022 haze of time
And its hard to not just feel like we're all just collectively chasing ghosts, extending the echoes of that era until some collective spark ushers in the next one and kicks things off once again
Not me, the UWaterloo physics community is talking about how a prof is basically offloading their lectures to ChatGPT, but they are doing it live
One of the Google Gemini ads they show on TV has this as a usecase
"OK Gemini, prepare a lesson plan for my class today"
I have not missed a lecture in my entire university career
