Honestly, that's the reason it's difficult for me to play Gens I-III.

I never pay attention to anything other than types and move power

and just use whatever move is powerful with a type advantage

I don't even really look at my own pokemons stats

I just use whatever pokemon I like the look of

Phys/spec split is why so many moves were added in Gen IV that are identical to moves that existed in I-III, just the opposite damage type

I think I can explain it fluid dynamics wise

you have two waves coming in on shore on either side, and they have constructive interference going the other way in the middle of the two (basically, the current at the side of the waves add together) and thus makes a strong current that pulls towards the ocean between the waves

The easiest way to remember what types are special before the split is all the eeveelutions plus dragon are special
