"How does anime challenge gender norms?" That depends, are we talking about gender norms in the US in 2022 as spoken by upper-middle-class suburban white academics, or are we talking about gender norms of whomever made an anime, at the time they made said anime?

The amount of Japanese in my blood is completely negligible imo, it goes as far as "I've heard words pronounced now and then as a child so I don't pronounce po-kei-mon as pac-man".

"Pokémon" pronounced as it's spelled is almost never used in any regard, official or not; in English, it's usually pronounced as po-kuh-mon, and in Japanese it's "poketto monsutaa," not even using the word "Pokémon" usually.

It's really annoying when a light novel is picked up for a like 12-episode anime series and that's it, when there's like 17 light novels for it.

I don't think I actually say the name vocally, but when I read it, I hear it as "AR-see-iss" in my head, because that's the first way I've heard it pronounced, and heard it that way enough in video games

Rayquaza is another name I heard as "ray-KWAA-zuh" in video games before hearing it as "ray-KWAY-zuh" in anime or other games, so I still think of it as the first in my head
