ok, I have fixed the longstanding issue on Rawb.art with pause/playback
videos will now properly pause when focus is lost on the window
and on mobile, you can still lock your screen while a video is playing
it should be more consistent, if you pause the video it will remain paused until you unpause it
if you just lock your screen, it will keep playing (tested on all relevant browsers)
well, correction, it will follow whatever your mobile browser's setting is
so if you have background play turned off, it will not keep playing
I've tried to fix it before by fully replacing the player, and by adding a bunch of heavy-handed javascript
the focus-loss issue was unrelated to the mobile playback issue (surprisingly)
at some point brosers changed how they issues commands to video players, and actually secrelty issues a 2nd command as if the video player is a document
so I was correctly issuing video-watch calls
but by changing tabs, the "document" it was reading was set to hidden, which then reset the page calls, and because the site has auto-play it would start playing the video again
unless you waited for enough time for everything to reach agreement about it being paused

Im honestly impressed, I dont code much anymore but from what im told AI is only good for boiler plate/basic stuff. Did it diagnose the issue
code is a good use case for AI
math, not so much
I fucking hate it
at best it can point you in the right direction, but you need to know what parts of it to completely ignore because the stated reasoning is wrong
Polar, I'm not shilling when I say this
I really don't think many people appreciate how overpowered AI are at coding now
I use GPTCodex
but its neck-and-neck between that and ClaudeCode
and math/engineering is more of a prompting/framing problem
if you have a workflow where AI agents review themselves and work the problems, it's fairly robust
but if you just open a CoPilot window an paste and abstract math problem, it's going to spit out garbage and get off track immediately
Yeah, if you handhold it, I am sure it can get there
problem is, I can get the same result by just thinking about the problem, so it pisses me off
Also, say hi to Rob everyone
timestamped
oh I fucked it up
oops
I was about to say spooky

phijkchu.comthere we go
I did get to that point because I kept watching
from the timestamp you posted
Also, apparently Rob moved
still in Toronto or no idea?
it takes a long time for my transcription thing to parse long videos
but I'll skip through
nice

While im "anti-ai" I do think its good and people who are whole heartedly against it are retarded
but r u an ant ai
loll
It's weird how companies are so cavalier "wasting" bandwidth, and then will also desperately conserve minor amount of it in really annoying ways
see, .webp's existing
bandwidth realistically is free up until the point of abuse, and everything up until actual DDOSing should be fine

It's free if you own all the hardware involved and are big enough to get fee-free peering. If you're paying some middleman for a port or for transit per Mbit it's very expensive.
I'm more saying fundamentally
the reason peering is for-profit at all is because early providers wanted to be paid be governments for owning the infrastructure, there's no real cost at the BGP layer why a cost is incurred, even when transiting networks/ISPs/countries
and (not to give an exact %) but peering income is trivial at this point for all providers, it's not how they actually make money anymore
there's more to what we're "paying for" beyond the peering itself true
but actual swtiching throughput (physical or logical) isn't a real bottleneck
CDNs want to exist and will charge for it to make money, but it's not really costing them anything
I think my point is sort of that, we've decided that these free things cost money, so that companies can make money
but when you scale that up and start talking about services like Twitch, which will have millions of simultaneous open connections with outbound data
them throttling the throughput of those connections (by dropping the video/audio HLS streams) is saving zero real money, it's all paper savings
Replying to mtcdood #mtcdood Once one of those big companies that don't have to pay these fees decide "I could make some money off this free resource" everyone downstream gets punished.
I do agree with this to a point though, if you suddenly made bandwidth free odds are you'd have Network abuse, even if I can't predict the exact form it would take
How the new guy found the server lmao
Whoever this is. I am NOT spooky
Amazing
you can tell which server theme existed
naw it's fine Pika, you can be me
