man kepy working with rob for years after they left mindcrack

I've talked to a few people on the wiki team previously, I think a couple are still in this server but are inactive No one had the original theme file, and we couldn't get into contact with the guy who might have had it (though Github mentions are scuffed)

and Niso has been asked about it in the recent past

he wants nothing to do with Rob and deflects from talking about anything from their projects together

Rob can't maintain friendships with people he works with

he's sort of up-front about it too, but I don't think people ever realize the degree to which he compartmentalizes the two

Niso (like Tom and Danny before him) I believe eventually had a moment where they needed Rob to treat them in a non-work capacity for something, and Rob was incapable of doing that

Danny's was Unforgotten Realms production related, Tom's was a financially related to the UQuest kickstarter, Niso's was time related (professional and other personal projects)

it happens with more than just his direct partners too, when Rob needs something from you as a fan/artist/collaborator/whatever, he'll really play to your perception of him

And while I think you can point to that and say "Rob's an asshole" or "Rob's manipulative" I think it's more that people like Rob so much (personally or professionally) that they WANT to look past that regardless

Pre-drug, pre-mentally ill Rob was talented af and about as charismatic as they come. And even now there's enough of that old him left that he can bring out on rare occasions to spark that feeling again

idk if that all makes sense, but I like to be more charitable than just saying "omg Rob's a bad person" Because there's not really anything I'd point to from the years and years of his past dealings and state outright "Bad", but rather its that disconnect with how people perceive him and reality, and people react in very different ways when they come to realize that

and as for luck/timing the tldr;tldr is just that Rob; over the course of the 15 years he spent monetizing his projects online, would constantly reach these decision points of how to proceed, and would pick the wrong option It's happened a tragically large number of times, which is frankly absurd bad luck. Had any one of those turned out differently, I think Rob would have been wildly successful, far greater than the peaks he did reach

His downfall was caused by increasing and unchecked drug use, full stop.

whatever latent mental issues he had were exacerbated by that

That's the one decision (or I guess many small decisions of the course of years) that undid him

everyone else involved is mostly forgotten

i see a lot of people who dont follow guude at all just still running with the old narrative of "guude is greedy" or what have you

My position (I stated this when I first published the video) is guude made a lot of really stupid choices

many spurred on by people doing stupid shit

but he did make bad calls

sure but hes not malicious or sociopathic like people want to make him out ot be

its not like rob, or i guess gennyB who i am inclined to believe is a bad guy based on how he isnt allowed in hermitcraft

by people who actually know him

I think if someone was mad/sad that Mindcrack fell apart, Guude is at fault for that

and; like a lot of things, dumb decisions are usually knowably dumb at the time, and it frustrates people to watch a public tranwreck happen when average people can come up with better courses of action

If nothing else, Guude made the choice to never talk about anything that happened

leaving people to just speculate

idk if this is an engineering/scientific approach or an above 80IQ approach or what.... but like....

just run ideas past more than one person before just doing it

wisdom of the crowd, or even just "hey friend, is this dumb or not"

that's why people try to character assassinate Guude I think, from the outside it makes it seem like he thought he knew best and was going to force everyone into his mold

and like Pika said, going radio silent after things failed makes it seem like it's even more your own hubris that caused it

like i said i dont deny he made mistakes but nothing he was was anything but good intentioned with consequences he just didnt see
