Here's the first big test, does Trump obey the supreme court, or force congress to force him

In practice, it is only used two ways
one, normally, where the election is vaguely every 4 years
or two, as a power move "I want to do this thing, and I believe so strongly the public will support it so winning this election will be a mandate to proceed"
It in theory gives a governement who perhaps only won a minority government, but did enough to earn public support, to shift into a majority government by earning more seats, allowing them to pass laws easier
Since you guys do not really have the same notion of minority and majority government, such a system does not really make sense in the US, but it is logical for our system
I think the frustration is that 2/3 of the money was promised away while Biden was a lame duck president
and now Trump and the Dep of Commerce would rather control where it goes
the actual issue with the chips act, is still that the TSMC fab is a mess, and the federal government doesn't know what they want other than "China bad"

If any province leaves, I think the country collapses. At that point, I would rather each province just become a micronation

For the record, I think if a single US state was allowed to leave (they would not be), it would also cause a ripple effect of at least a handful more also trying to leave
having a part of your country leave kind of distabilizes the country if its not the case where there is a natural border between the parts
I think you're right in that they wouldn't be allowed to, but I think the only reason it wouldn't work well for most of the US is that geographically, N.America is essentially just the continental united states
there's not larger system to become a part of
you're either the US, a US protectorate like Canada or Mexico, or one of the many shitter countries that produce drugs or bananas
any state leaving on their own would just become a 2nd Canada, where there's this implicit relationship that is one-sided
