people tend to get stuck in fantasy stereotypes, especially movie or tv shit
But isn't the whole point of a roleplaying game to, yknow, roleplay? Like, if you have to trek 40 miles, why would you walk from point A to point B, wearing your full plate armor, sword and board equipped, when you could wear normal clothes, get a couple horses and a cart, and ride there?
there really should be an incentive to be slightly more grounded and have traveling armor and main combat armor
We would always travel as poor pesants with a cart with all the gear in it when we played
with only a sword or two between us, maybe a bow?

so he could stop, jump into the back and throw gear at people first chance

Replying to Gent #gent_. Rogue gets shit on a lot for forcing the party into theft but if you can’t do your class shit in combat you don’t have many other opportunities other than pickpocketing a merchant
thats why I only play rogues in a neutral party or evil party.

You have to at least try to think as a character, not a person playing a character. If you're in a party with 4 or 5 other people, and you have two people in plate mail or chain mail stomping around, you have to either take point far ahead or fall back way behind, basically to the point you can see them, but if they engage with an enemy, you won't be immediately discovered.

5e rogue is fine in combat
I love to have rogues in the way back, covering the party in darkness most of the time

most good party rogues would just be hidden back of the group being an archer
with a dagger or two for backup if needed
Anyway, sorry for all the sperging and rambling. I just hate when shit like this is done when there's absolutely no need for it, and I don't think it ever leads to improved sales of products or anything, so it's completely pointless, especially if, as everyone here is saying, you can just house rule it how you want. (Not to mention that the 5e DMG straight up tells you to house rule whatever you want, however you want)

I'm generally the one person who actually wants to be DM, because I'm decent at coming up with shit on the fly, think of and roll up WAY too many PCs I want to try to actually play just one for more than a one shot, and I tend to tailor adventures to be not only fun & interesting for me, but for the players involved, meaning a LOT of reading others & adapting during a game session.
