Really, it's just a matter of harm reduction, along with how much a person cares.

X% of people might not eat meat because they really care about animals. X% might care enough to go vegan if there were non-meat alternatives (or soon, cultured meat alternatives) that tasted the same. X% of people might not give a shit either way, but might eat less or no meat if non-meat alternatives were cheaper and tasted the same.

For specific examples...Max might stop eating meat if alternatives tasted good. Rusp might stop, if there were societal pressures to stop eating meat. Pika or Dolfin might stop on the doctor's orders after the first heart attack.

Though, as with pushing public opinion leftward on any social issue, you don't really need to convince everyone. Just target the most receptive people first, while waiting for the least receptive people (the elderly) to die.

And then, maybe by 2050 the majority will be vegan. Just like Rob said.

lab-grown "meat" is also coming, but I have my doubts about that until its further along
