so towns would have things like glass or super strong metal tools, that they didn't know how to make more of

some of those ancient civilizations like rome were ahead of their times

stained glass is literally made by taking broken pieces of glass, and smelting them together with impure substances, creating that cool effect

so once glass broke, all they knew how to do was make stained glass out of it
