old buildings were usually built around stairs, and *if* they have elevators they're on the end of the building, out of the way and more meant as a handicap/ADA thing

now though, I can't think of a building I've been in where the elevators aren't the designated way to move up/down floors, and you'd be weird for going out of your way to try to find/use the stairs

FUCK
it's more like what Fire says, they have emrgency stairs somwhere.... probably
or alarmed
though actually
the building I used to work in specifically had stairs that would lock if there was a fire in the building
so idfk
the stairwells were the fire break
to preserve building rigidity
Stairs are typically right next to the elevators what building are you going to spooky
not anymore
thats not true
Replying to (Not Spooky) Spark Dragon #sparkdragoon Stairs are typically right next to the elevators what building are you going to spooky
i have never seen stairs next to an elevator
every building ive gone to thats new or old they are around the same area
just because you have to turn one corner does not mean they are not close

"to be fair, it would be more sad for the building to fall apart than for a group of humans to burn to death" cat vs tree type reasoning
I seen that in malls, we're talking office buildings/apartments
office building and appartments are the same way
go to any hotel in columbus and they are right next to each other
appartments are laid out in the same way
alternative version of this question
when taking the elevator, will you take the freight elevator, or will you wait for a normal one?
they are just big elevators Dialga
they're slower, but I don't discriminate and will take them if they're there
I walk up my stairs to get to my 3rd floor apartment
I am assuming for my vote you are able bodied, and also you are not carrying shit
If you are carrying stuff, the calculus changes depending on how much you are carrying
Luckily I do not own a couch
Also I wasn't even being that extreme
if you are carry lots of groceries, I think taking the elevator is fine for whatever floor (though I often still just take the stairs)
Pika, you are you
you are carrying no groceries
you are feeling full of energy and virile today
how many steps do you take at a time?
Up the stairs? one
Only time I multistep is I'll do a little hop down the last 2 steps if I am feeling adventurous
the steps are too high to multistep up
and too far apart
Replying to Spooky Phijkchu #spooky.131 how many steps do you take at a time? (edited)
4 or 5 at a time in huge leaps to show off my athleticism
Replying to RIBA #dank.meme if you are carrying a couch you are legally required to use the stairs sorry
Hey, at my old place, we did have to do that. The elevator was so tiny that only a twin mattress could fit inside. It took about 30 minutes to carry a couch up 8 flights of stairs.
Polu, did you clap for the sign language interpreter
It's weird that Anthropic is doing negative ads
Feels like there are enough people not using AI, you could go for new people, instead of fighting for people paying for Gemini/GPT
