It's got to be close to 10 times now
This University genuinely just fell off a cliff due to covid and never recovered
For my meme Master's I guess it's fitting that I ended up going to a degree mill that everyone still believes is reputable
To think spooky, you could've come up to Canada and went to my school

I genuinely think I picked the best school for undergrad I possibly could, though I also just lucked out and finished right before covid fucked everything
I had in in my head that this Masters program was going to be similar for some reason, and was ready to spend time in the school mindset, it's what I was sorta doing it for honestly
I liked the college environment of everyone just continually trying to learn and putting in collective effort
it's just crazy seeing the before and after

Neither uwaterloo or queens seems to have
idk if Canadian schools were more insulated to the effects of covid
but if anything, they made Uwaterloo harder when it went online
I don't think it's necessarily about being hard/easy
the sentiment pre-covid was most people were in university for some combination of learning & the "experience" (defined however you want)
sure there were some people there for the piece of paper, but it was the minority
now it's transactional, profs are checked out, students are checking boxes, and nobody goes 1 step further than is required
and look, I'm not saying "college isn't worth it" or that it's completely dead everywhere with no exceptions
but I really do think it's been a widespread change
I guess I just have not noticed any from either of the universites I've been to
I hope there are colleges out there that do manage to remain insulated
yeah there will be other covid effects and generational shifts and all
yep, that too
being slow to adapt to AI, and moving to digital coursework imo are also huge L's
for K-12
it's one thing to have good software for tracking work or w/e
but even well-funded districts just outsource all their material to "reputable" curriculum providers
which turn out to be glorified Indian scammers
and no one catches on because the interface and delivery method are slick
idk, I just really hope education in general is able to bounce back, in some form
not just for the "societal good" angle either
I finished my grad school during covid while professors were still in the "I don't understand new technology" mindset and most were just hoping people would show up in person, and since it was, ya know, Houghton, Michigan and there were at most 20 covid cases, everyone showed up in person to lectures and exams anyway.
