Okay, that depends on how pedantic they are being
I do agre with you needing to show your work, but only for work wroth showing
Replying to Dialga #god_of_time i also remember in like middle school before i dropped out i would get points on homework and tests deducted because i "didn't show my work" even though i had the right answers, i just did it all in my head so i didnt need to physically do the thing on paper
This was a constant issue for me as well
Needing to justify why 5x5 is 25 is stupid, but needing to show steps in a calculation that is actually multi step and not something like that is important
I think trigonometry is probably the most advanced math the average person needs
I consider basics of accounting to be less advanced
I think the problem is there is a lot of stuff you can use math for in day to day life that is super useful, but for a moderate increase in wasting time you can circumvent it without having to think as much
so most people opt for the latter
I mean for things that are not just "what is this number times this number"
calculator is faster for me too except in maybe half of the possible 2 digit number times 2 digit number
Also to go back to the show your work debate
I was arguing with a guy who was saying he should not have to show any work for integrals and just submit his assignments with them solved (he also admitted he just uses chat gpt to do his integrals, and does not care if the answer is right or not)
so that arguement is relevant even for upper year university students
I don't personally know him, this was just in my physics club discord

which I have never done the lin alg way because they guy who taught me quantum 1 was supposed to do that, but instead did it the PDE calculus way
I guess I vaguely saw some lin alg quantum when I took quantum physics 3 in my 4th year

I think I've done the gaussian integral proof 2 or 3 different ways, the most common one is to square it then take the root of that
I think for most people, having high school math lead into set theory is kind of silly lol
set theory is super important, but idk if its relevant to most people
