not that chain specifically
but there are a couple K-burger places near me
System message
's poll If you met up with someone for lunch, and they decided to not eat anything and just watch you eat, what would your reaction be has closed.
actually, I'm extra curious now
some channels have it randomly
some just have the lock
My best guess is that the warning thing has something to do with the changing permissions settings, but I can't guarantee that

How Modern Schools Make Terrible Writers (Deliberately)

I'm glad there's one section that's at least on a interesting topic that's been doing the rounds recently
people don't understand what it means to be literate/illiterate, they think it's about word knowledge and being able to vocalize a sentence, it's actually about being able to understand what you are reading, which collectively we're getting significantly worse at
the rest of the video is culture war slop
sorry, culture war slop and blaming AI
I like the topic, public education is so all-over the place globally
and it only takes a momentary lapse to create a cohort who cannot learn
and doom them from an early age
Replying to Spooky Phijkchu #spooky.131 and it only takes a momentary lapse to create a cohort who cannot learn
Yeah this is an interesting topic. As any science works, there has to be some amount of testing, but that testing can potentially just ruin a group of people’s lives.
For a long time America (following the Prussian model) had the most *efficient* education system in the world
then in the last 90s/00s we decided we had to be the "best" and started chasing that
Math changes are the only ones in the US I am vaguely aware of because I followed it a bit during the common core stuff (is that still the standard?) Its wild how they can just change the system every 5 or so years and just ruin entire generations on a whim
Common core was wild because I understand in theory that it was "teaching you to follow a set procedure to do it instead of memorization" but the fact of the matter is, you have to memorize a subset of tools, it is required in math
you cannot do away with memorization, and memorizing multiplication tables up to like 12 is genuinely just a needed timesaving technique
Okay, that depends on how pedantic they are being
I do agre with you needing to show your work, but only for work wroth showing
Replying to Dialga #god_of_time i also remember in like middle school before i dropped out i would get points on homework and tests deducted because i "didn't show my work" even though i had the right answers, i just did it all in my head so i didnt need to physically do the thing on paper
This was a constant issue for me as well
Needing to justify why 5x5 is 25 is stupid, but needing to show steps in a calculation that is actually multi step and not something like that is important
I think trigonometry is probably the most advanced math the average person needs
I consider basics of accounting to be less advanced
I think the problem is there is a lot of stuff you can use math for in day to day life that is super useful, but for a moderate increase in wasting time you can circumvent it without having to think as much
so most people opt for the latter
I mean for things that are not just "what is this number times this number"
calculator is faster for me too except in maybe half of the possible 2 digit number times 2 digit number
Also to go back to the show your work debate
I was arguing with a guy who was saying he should not have to show any work for integrals and just submit his assignments with them solved (he also admitted he just uses chat gpt to do his integrals, and does not care if the answer is right or not)
so that arguement is relevant even for upper year university students
I don't personally know him, this was just in my physics club discord
I was in debate mode

that's actually disgusting
Because he, a low student, was arguing with me, someone that actually has to mark people like his assignments
