I remember hearing that Michigan is in eastern time because they wanted to keep it on the same timezone as NYC to keep a constant time for shipping across the great lakes. And so it was a massive jump from living in the UP to Rhode Island and the sky gets light at like 4:30am here

So going to the Escanaba airport is stressful when your cellphone toggles between central and eastern time when the closest tower is all over the place lol.

One lil anecdote - if you watch All Gas No Breaks (or Channel 5), we all got absolutely stun locked on that episode in Marquette for the 4th of July. I always get shocked when people know about the UP

When trump initially talked about getting rid of it, a weirdly large number of people complained about it and argued over how DST is good or w/e
