I just don't see how this saves Twitch money

i cant imagine their DB or infrastructure is even remotely capable for the sheer amount of HQ video they ahve

it can't be storage

it has to be something else

I'd rather they degrade VOD, rather than kill it

twitch staff has already finished jerking off live to anything they want to jerk off to, so they do not need highlights

they would degrade it, or move it to to a different DB or something, there's very little reason for them to completely delete it all unless there was an infrastructure issue

put all VODs older than 30 days into a low-bandwidth mode purge timeline thumbnails and reduce CDN presence to low-traffic nodes

they should exempt twitch partners and then this doesn't matter at all

like Max said, storage is the cheapest part

especially since amazon owns them

twitch affiliates won't need it

they should have ZERO issues with storage

The only way I could see this making sense is if they want to down the line have a plan for streamers to pay for storage space or something

the most costly part for them is thumbnails appak bandwidth costs are zero compared to HLS live, storage is nothing (especially since they autopurge VODs, and even then....)

they waste so much money failing to beat adblockers and blame this instead for wasted resources
