In Monster Hunter World, is it pointless to put barrel bombs near a monster's head while using a greatsword? Like, while the True Charged Slash end up hitting just the head and not the bomb, or hitting the bomb before the head, thus not giving the big bonus damage to the head?

with gs specifically it's often more damage to bomb the tail on a lot of monsters, if you can trigger the bombs after getting the wakeup

also bombs do nowhere near the max amount of damage you can do with a tcs on a decent build, so trying to get the wake-up hit with the sword itself is usually optimal

even just triggering the bombs manually after getting the wakeup is usually better as long as you're still hitting a good weak point

Alternatively if you’re in multiplayer you can just have the gs player wake the monster up with a tcs to whatever bodypart is weakest to slash, then have another person trigger the bombs on the head or something

I'm only playing solo, but regardless, you're saying it's better to get a TCS to wake up the monster, then attempt to blow up bombs near the tail immediately?

the wakeup with tcs is definitely better, bomb location kinda depends on the monster and if you're trying to break a certain part or something

because bombs do really high damage for that

Would I just get the TCS off, then immediately aim at the bombs with the slinger to get the bombs to blow?

When I was playing on PS4, I was maining CB(this was before IB released), and it was relatively easy to make sure the SAED hit the monster before the barrels. When I was playing on PC a couple years ago, I was mostly playing GL, pretty easy to hit the head(or whatever my target was) and the bombs at the same time. Playing GS this time, but it seemed a bit harder to make sure I get the TCS to hit the head first.

And I'm having trouble finding videos of people setting up bombs for that with a GS for example.

TCS is just pretty finicky honestly

you get used to lining it up eventually but it definitely takes time

If I just don't even bother with bombs, I don't have much trouble getting the TCS to hit my target on the sleeping monster, but with bombs included, it's very finnicky.

idk about lining up tcs since I just kinda got used to it on my own

but this video is great for understanding how to maneuver around in combat

gs in iceborne and rise is easily my favorite version of the weapon

my brain is so fucked by rage slash in rise that idk how I'm gonna do with tcs anymore lmao

yeah new GS is super sick

they gave it so many options for moving around that if you play properly you basically never need to sheathe

both in rise and iceborne

and now in the rise expansion they're gonna let us use both TCS and rage slash on the same set

which sounds fucking nuts

rage slash has hyper armor and gains more damage if you're hit while charging it, and now they're letting us swap back and forth between that and the more damaging tcs on the go

gs is gonna have an answer for literally everything and I love it
