no love for the 2D platforms with some "deep" underlying message
this really should be 5 paths with that as one
mario is not a metroidvania
but it is a 2d platformer

all mario games are not connected worlds
they all either have a hub, or are linear
or have a series of hubs if you are odyssey
I don't think its classified, because that fails the unlocking items requirement of being a metroidvania
modern mario fails because of the connected world requirement, old mario fails for the items requirement
since mushrooms are not exactly items, they are temporary powerups
you can't get from 1 world to another freely
some worlds are connected
not all
