and then you can never enjoy one after that
they are fine, they are braindead games
that is all they are
I just don't know how you translate that into an interesting full game
after you spend a few hours fucking around enjoying one the first time
Honestly, maybe making it a map game where you can zoom in and do warriors pvp battles or something
would make it less braindead
The problem is the AI is braindead, so it is actually just faster to rush over and do something yourself
even if its across the map
There is also just objectively broken ways to play those games
certain attack combos that are always better
so it usually is just doing the same thing over and over again
Saw a video titled "Super Mario RPG Shouldn’t Work (But It Does)" (didn't watch it (released this week)).
There is no universe where a Mario anything doesn't work, even if just on paper. There's no "Platformer character doesn't translate properly to RPG on Paper". It's fucking Mario. People bought and played the game just because it had MARIO in the title and didn't read the rest of it.
There is only one Mario game with MARIO in the title that should not or did not end up "working", and that's the game where MARIO is explicitly missing. And that game is called "Mario is Missing" by the way.

What I really want to see is an analys of is Geldoblame from Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean.
Always thought Baten Kaitos was just one upmanship of Final Fantasy VI. Final Fantasy VI has a floating continent? Every continent in Baten Kaitos is a floating continent except for that one place that's on the ground in disc two.
Geldoblame shows up at the end (after being thought dead at the end of disc one, following a betrayal by the final boss), after a 20 minute cutscene following the final boss, only to reveal himself as the REAL final final boss.
